Mountain Biking

Coler is home to world-class mountain biking just steps from downtown Bentonville. With more than 20 miles of professionally built trails, the Preserve offers heart-pumping climbs, flowy descents, technical rock features, and family-friendly paths.

Campground

Nestled in the woods, Coler’s campground is your basecamp for trail adventure. Designed for van camping, bikepacking, and tent setups, the site includes modern bathhouses, hammock hangouts, and easy access to the trail system. Wake up with the forest — and ride straight from your site.

Airship

An open-air café in the heart of the woods, Airship at Coler offers craft coffee, local beer, and fresh bites in a stunning, bike-in setting. Whether you’re fueling up for the ride or unwinding afterward, this architectural gem makes the middle of nowhere feel like the center of everything.

Applegate Trail

The paved Applegate Trail winds through the heart of Coler, offering a smooth, accessible ride for cruisers, adaptive riders, and families alike. It connects the Preserve to downtown Bentonville, creating a car-free corridor where nature, art, and community converge. Along the way, you’ll pass public art, cross the stream, explore the ecosystem, and enjoy direct access to The Rise and Airship at Coler.

The Rise

The Rise is Coler’s scenic stairway to the top — an ergonomic running space and pedestrian-only ascent to the Hub, the highest point in the Preserve. Designed by modus studio and inspired by the iconic stairs in Santa Monica, this structure features 185 steps made of steel and rough-sawn cedar — equal to 11 flights.

Art

Sourced through partnerships with OZ Art NWA and the Runway Group, the Preserve features unexpected installations that surprise and delight trail users. From a vibrant rainbow arch and stainless steel sculptures to an oversized chair, a dinosaur, and the iconic Paradise Found neon sign, each piece adds a spark of color and curiosity to the natural landscape.

Ecosystem

Coler Mountain Bike Preserve is a living Ozark ecosystem shaped by water, geology, and time. From rocky ridgelines to rich valley meadows, the landscape supports diverse native plants and wildlife that shift with the seasons—spring wildflowers bloom before the forest canopy returns, and restored streambeds now flow freely through habitats once buried under a dam. Thoughtfully designed trails protect the land while offering access to its beauty, from redbuds and pawpaws to kingfishers and crayfish.

Coler Creek

Coler Creek flows through the heart of the Preserve, weaving together ecology, history, and restoration. Once dammed for cattle, the stream was buried in mud and stripped of its natural curves and habitats. Today, it flows freely once again—its winding path restored with rock-lined banks, riffles, and pools that support native fish, crayfish, and birds like kingfishers and herons. The creek shapes the surrounding landscape, nourishes wildflowers and trees, and offers visitors a place to pause, wade, and wonder.

Firefly Sanctuary

In 2024, Coler Mountain Bike Preserve became the first certified firefly sanctuary west of the Mississippi River—and the first in Arkansas. Designated by Firefly Conservation & Research, the sanctuary honors Coler’s natural suitability for fireflies, made possible by its pesticide-free practices, preserved leaf litter, dark skies, native plants, and fresh water sources. No major changes were needed; thoughtful land stewardship already provided the perfect conditions for these magical insects to thrive. The sanctuary was brought to life in partnership with the Northwest Arkansas Master Naturalists, who led the charge in spotlighting firefly conservation. Each summer, visitors can experience the wonder for themselves during guided Firefly Walks, where the forest lights up with nature’s quiet brilliance.
