Archery Legends
Archery has been around for thousands of years.
The historical significance of archery is undeniable, but we hardly get a chance to talk about myths and legends that involve the sport. Read along to discover some of the greatest archery legends of all time!
Eros and Cupid
Two of mythology’s most widely known archers (arguably) are Eros and Cupid, the Greek and Roman gods of love. These gods are armed with a bow and quiver filled with arrows that cause uncontrollable desire in whoever they strike. Their targets include average people, heroes, and even gods.
It is likely due to their association with the chaotic feelings of love that these archers have remained relevant in cultures across the world since the archaic period!
Hou Yi
In Chinese mythology, Hou Yi is considered to be the greatest archer of all time. He is said to have shot down 9 of the 10 suns that had risen together over the earth and is best known for marrying the moon goddess, Chang’e.
Odysseus
Any fans of the Iliad and the Odyssey? If you are, chances are you know that archery plays a key role in both infamous works by Homer.
